Xavierino's 26th Birthday Blues: Tuesday, February 10th!

What for centuries raised man above the beast is not the cudgel but the irresistible power of unarmed truth. -Bois Pasternak, poet and novelist (10 Feb 1890-1960)

P, we are awaiting the recrudescence of the transient Islay missive. We fear you inadvertently swam to a former prison island in San Francisco Bay or in exasperation you have chosen to drink all the wine stashed to avoid the endless calculations and machinations involved in mulage. I expect the dauntless eco Ford is full of new cases of hootch and the logistics puzzle is ever more confounding.

As you may know it has been sunny here over family day weekend so we are not sure why you have chosen to go south. Be sure to check out Idyllwild in your Treks around Palm Springs and Desert. Gorgeous country and up out of the sun in the desert. There used to be a great breakky joint there. Safe travels and fond regards to C and the Naramations, W & J

Hello Family Day Sun Worshippers! Trust you are both well and that your Vitamin D levels are now back to normal Thank you, Giggster, for the tips to follow while on manoeuvre during Desert Storm. Sad to report, however, that Titanium Green needs more hootch ballast as Los Horridos are juiceheads extraordinaire, learning well from their dipsomaniacal Nana!

On the Home Front, no bites yet on The Islay Inn, (although numerous showings since we left), so you will still have us to kick around there for a little while anyway!
To continue, at your insistence, Dear Starved Readers, the On the Road Islay Inn Missive, once I peel the spuds for lunch today I'm off to ride the Balboa/Encino Golf Course loop as route will give me a relatively quick 51+ km ride, enabling me to be back and showered and changed before Birthday Bash begins. Fondestos from my Sisterhood to you both. Cheers, Il Conduttore!

Pics: LACMA and Hollywood!

Mme Coriandre released me from my kitchen duties, (peeling spuds, in the main), so I was able to suit up, lube up and take off for the Orange Line Busway at just past 10:00 am. It was a glorious day, (67º when I started and about 77º when I finished), but a few clouds in an otherwise clear blue sky. Wind was out of the west at about 6 mph so I was able to achieve and keep up a pretty good AVG, (20 km/hr and maintained, towards the end at 22.8 km/hr but that dropped on final three or so long blocks back to Woodman as I had to do a quite a few creative dipsy-doodles when approaching a red light, circling and such, in quite a limited space, but am pleased to report a Dreaded Burning Ground Free ride! Stats for ride:

Home to find Alejandro already studying while Nana was putting the finishing touches to her Ceasare. Quick shower and change and then we visited until Ayn arrived with a workmate, Heather Overton, a lovely young woman, originally from Texas, for lunch. We all chatted until the Birthday Boy arrived and then we toasted his good health before we sat down to a truly delicious lunch: slow-cooked ribs, garlic mashed potatoes, fresh corn-on-the-cob, and above-mentioned Cesaere! Ayn had picked up an assortment of mini-cheesecakes, (a number gluten-free for her Mama), from the Pacific Cheesecake Company, a small family owned business at the foot of Laurel Canyon and Riverside. What a meal so hats off to Lady Mary. Who said she was just a pretty face!

Alejandro and the Hallmark Goils left after lunch to head back to work while the rest of us watched the first two episodes of Better Call Saul, the wonderful spin-off from Breaking Bad. Wow! After this we took a bit of a break and I loaded the dishwasher while the layabouts read and texted. Once kitchen was ordered we sat down to see final two episodes of Outlander. [Pierre set up device as he was off to his class, Calculus and Analytic Geometry II.] Highly recommend this series if you have access. Ayn was home about 7:00 am and Cora Lee and I were right in the midst of a heated argument. Had just received an offer on The Islay Inn and are still locked in bitter disagreement, regarding price, as of this scribing. [Will update anon.] We will soon say goodnight to Ayn and Winston, [and Pierre who stopped by for more ribs after class], and continue our "argument" upstairs as we watch Downton, and Granchester, I trust! Fondestos from all the Tinsel Towners and Mme Coriandre. Cheers, Patrizzio!

Hola Patrizio and Lady Corinne--I am looking forward to your arrival in Palm Desert tomorrow. What time do you think you might arrive in the 'hood? Some friends of Ann and Gary's are coming by tomorrow for a quick look-around and then the five of us are off to El Paseo for lunch at one of the neighbourhood restaurants. I expect we'll be back at the house by mid-afternoon. I hope this suits your schedule okay,, or would you like me to leave the key somewhere for you to get into the house if you arrive before we get home? I'll take my cell phone with me when we go out for lunch and I'll actually have it on, so you could call me if necessary. The number is 250 4861454. The restaurant is just a short walk away. I think I'll leave the key for you … just in case. I'll put it under the mat at the front door. Your bedroom for the first night will be the smaller room on your left after you come in the front door. Make yourselves at home. See you soon. It'll be fun! Cheers, Lynnie

Hello El Paseo Patron! I gather Jugos Dom Pedro is now in Vancouver. Mme Coriandre just talked to Clarisse and The Dustman and they will be playing bridge with Sarge and JDP tomorrow so that should be fun for everyone. Thank you for being so accommodating about the key. We are planning to leave Tinsel Town some time between 9:00 am-10:00 am and according to Google Maps, trip should take about 2 hours and 18 minutes if all goes well with respect to traffic. I assume we might take some time finding your gorgeous home but be that as it may, we will let ourselves in if, thanks to our generous house mistress. Enjoy your lunch and we'll see you at some point, tomorrow afternoon.
